Description of Work
SALARY RANGE: $70282.00 - $92500.00 The North Carolina Sentencing and Policy Advisory Commission seeks a qualified individual to fill its Research and Policy Associate position. The North Carolina Sentencing and Policy Advisory Commission a permanent state commission conducts studies on criminal and juvenile justice issues and makes recommendations to the General Assembly for the modification of sentencing laws policies and practices.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

This position reports to the Sentencing and Policy Advisory Commission Executive Director. Work hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday - Friday. The position is eligible for partial remote work pursuant to office policy.

Knowledge of: the criminal and/or juvenile justice system; the structure and operations of the NC court and correctional systems; Structured Sentencing laws and their application (NC general statutes); and the legislative process.

Masters degree in the social sciences statistics public policy public administration or other related field and two (2) years of relevant experience in governmental social science research public policy or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong preference for applicants with a high level of computer expertise including data management and analysis experience with SAS or other similar statistical analysis software; experience working with large data sets; and summarizing research findings. Experience with the North Carolina criminal and/or juvenile justice systems is also preferred.Please attach cover letter résumé and writing sample.
