Job Title: Lead Custodian
Location: BMW Plant – Spartanburg, SC
Pay Rate: $20/hour
Schedule: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Work Days: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
Off Days: Wednesday & Saturday

Position Summary:
The Lead Custodian oversees janitorial operations within the BMW Spartanburg Body Shop. This role supervises a team of 7 custodians, ensures cleanliness and safety standards are met, and serves as the primary liaison between the customer and site management. Required BMW and CFM online training must be completed prior to site access and badge issuance.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise and direct daily work of janitorial staff

Ensure cleanliness of plant areas including shop floors, warehouses, docks, offices, restrooms, break rooms, cafeteria, locker rooms, and meeting areas

Restock supplies and remove trash

Respond to spills and special cleaning projects

Operate industrial cleaning equipment (sweeper scrubbers, forklifts, burden carriers, etc.)

Perform limited outdoor duties (trash pickup, minor snow/salt near entrances)

Conduct safety observations, site inspections, and equipment checks

Evaluate employee performance, quality, and safety

Act as a customer liaison and submit required reports

Support continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications & Skills:

Janitorial or custodial experience required; leadership experience preferred

Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills

Dependable with excellent attendance and punctuality

Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment

Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, and climbing

Comfortable working in loud environments with exposure to chemicals, weather, and machinery

Education/Experience:

Less than high school education with relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
