Job Description

Job Title: College and Career Advisor

Department: College and Career Readiness

Reports To: Director of College and Career Advising

Compensation: $60,000

TRS Classification: Classified


Summary:

The College and Career Advisor is responsible for the successful completion of ICAP for students in 8th through 12th grade and post secondary participation for high school students, with an emphasis on 11th and 12th grade. The College and Career Advisor partners with College and Career Readiness Directors and Specialists to ensure students feel educated and equipped to pursue post secondary opportunities based on short and long term goals and have a clear plan for their next step after graduation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversees the implementation and completion of ICAP
  • Oversees the implementation and completion of post secondary opportunities for 11th and 12th grade students
  • Provides academic counseling to ensure student’s post secondary course selections align with their short and long term college and career goals
  • Ensures alignment between the ILP, ICAP, and post secondary opportunity course selections
  • Monitors academic progress specific to post secondary courses and provides support as needed
  • Creates and updates accurate documentation requirements of student quarterly ICAP completion
  • Creates and updates accurate documentation requirements of student participation and completion of post secondary courses
  • Works closely with staff to ensure students have a clear understanding of college and career paths, aligned course offerings, and completion requirements
  • Disseminates current information and data to school staff, students, caregivers, and community members regarding college and career readiness
  • Establishes expertise in the Naviance platform
  • Attends College and Career Readiness Department and other Epic events
  • Other related duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred but not required
  • Experience working with high school students preferred but not required

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Google applications, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.Must have a high aptitude to learn new software as necessary for the business operations of the school.
