Job Description

MED: Internal Medicine Rheumatology

In this role, you will function with a high degree of independence to advance cutting-edge clinical research and patient-centered care within Rheumatology, with a primary focus on lupus clinical trials and research studies. This role will also provide cross coverage clinical coordination support to three other Internal Medicine's Research Units, including Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases, & Nephrology.

In partnership with the supervisor, Principal Investigator, and research team, the position provides administrative and clinical leadership for industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated rheumatology research studies. The Senior Clinical Research Coordinator (Sr. CRC) is responsible for the clinical coordination of patients enrolled in research studies and treatment protocols, ensuring high-quality study execution while delivering an exceptional patient experience.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: study start-up activities, subject recruitment, screening, informed consent, enrollment, visit scheduling, data collection, participant tracking, and study-related documentation. The CRC will work closely with investigators and research staff to support regulatory compliance, data integrity, and overall trial management.

This position is grant funded. This position is office and clinic based and may require overtime or on-call as necessary to support recruitment and trial management. Responsibilities may shift based on workload and division need.

CRC:
  • Knowledge of basic anatomy, medical terminology and ability to interpret physicians' notes, medical records, laboratory and scan results.
  • Knowledge and understanding of disease processes.
  • At least 1 year of experience in research or clinical trials, such as a Clinical Research Coordinator or similar role.
  • Ability to work independently and/or cooperatively as a team member in a diverse workforce.
  • Intermediate to advanced level knowledge and understanding of federal, state and university (or similar) regulations for clinical research under Investigational New Drug and Institutional Review Board (IRB) guidelines (or similar)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from participants, participant's families, physicians, clinic staff and a wide variety of health care professionals with varying levels of ability to understand.
  • Intermediate level computer skills for word-processing programs, database programs, and data management.
  • Skills and experience in independently organize tasks and set priorities for work assignments to achieve timely progress on multiple tasks simultaneously, to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of productivity.


CRC Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree or a combination of equivalent experience, education or training in a related field
  • Prior experience coordinating clinical trials or research studies involving stem cell therapies.
  • P rior experience in a clinical setting, with at least one year of direct experience working with autoimmune diseases such as lupus
  • P rior experience in the management, maintenance, and quality assurance of research databases.


Sr CRC:

  • Bachelor's degree or a combination of equivalent experience, education or training in a related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in research or clinical trials, such as a Clinical Research Coordinator or similar role.
  • Prior experience in a clinical setting, with at least one year of direct experience working with autoimmune diseases such as lupus, is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to maintain large volumes of records with accuracy and attention to detail.


Sr CRC Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification by the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) or the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP).
  • Prior experience coordinating clinical trials or research studies involving stem cell therapies.
  • Prior experience in the management, maintenance, and quality assurance of research databases.
  • Prior experience as a lead and providing mentorship to junior-level colleagues.
  • Prior experience with lupus and rheumatological diseases.

The UC Davis Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Clinical Immunology offers expert, effective care for a wide variety of conditions.
