The School of Public Health Division of Biostatistics and Health Data Science (BHDS) is seeking a Biostatistician (9791BO Research Professional 5-Biostatistics) to join the Minnesota Complex Innovative Design Research Lab (M-CIDeR; led by Drs. Joseph Koopmeiners, Thomas Murray, Lianne Siegel and David Vock.


M-CIDeR is a collaboration of BHDS faculty with the goal of elevating clinical and behavioral research at the University of Minnesota through the development and implementation of complex, innovative study designs. M-CIDeR personnel have expertise related to adaptive designs, studies of adaptive interventions, pragmatic trials, and other innovative designs. Current projects involve clinical trials in critical care, clinical decision support/implementation science, and language development. BHDS provides a positive and supportive working environment, including supporting flexible working arrangements and professional development opportunities.

Starting Salary Range: $85,000 - $120,000 annually, dependent upon the selected candidate’s relevant qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

The position will work at the University Office Plaza which houses the Division of Biostatistics and Health Data Science. Hybrid work options are currently available with a minimum of 2 days in office during regular business hours.


In collaboration with investigators in BHDS and other researchers throughout the University of Minnesota duties for these positions include:


Clinical trial design and planning (30%): Support implementing simulation studies to evaluate trial operating characteristics for different designs; protocol development; writing statistical analysis plans for both grant applications and federally-funded projects.


Data management (30%): cleaning and manipulating data using REDCap and R; preparation of study datasets consistent with the trials resource-sharing plan; development of randomization schedules and online randomization applications


Data analysis (40%): preparing reports for investigators and the Data and Safety Monitoring Board on participant recruitment, follow-up, adverse events, estimated treatment/intervention effects, etc. and interpretation of results for peer-reviewed manuscripts, presentations, and other forms of disseminations

About the Division:

The Division of Biostatistics and Health Data Science ( one of four divisions in the School of Public Health, currently includes 35 faculty members and over 50 staff. Division faculty and staff are also active in a wide range of collaborative research projects including high-profile studies of cancer, cardiovascular disease, COVID-19, dentistry and periodontology, psychiatry/psychology, transplantation, chronic and neurodegenerative diseases, and tobacco control. The Division offers MS and PhD degrees in Biostatistics and a MPH in Public Health Data Science, with a current enrollment of 158 graduate students (62 Doctoral, 96 Masters).

The Division is located on the main University of Minnesota campus, which straddles the Mississippi River and is centrally located in Minneapolis. Campus is served by plentiful public transportation, including a light rail line stop across the street from Division offices. On-campus parking is also readily available on a contract or daily fee basis. The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul offer all the usual amenities of a major metropolitan area; one notable highlight is the urban parks system, which has frequently been ranked #1 in the nation. Livable neighborhoods are diverse and widespread, and housing prices remain moderate compared to other similarly sized metro areas.
